Chapter 1
A CALL TO LEADERSHIP
“Where no counsel is the people fall; but in the
multitude of counselors there is safety” Proverbs 11:14
God has called every parents to leadership to nurture
and take care of their children, The most common question I hear is, “How do I stay positive in taking care of
this children”, Here are some few suggestions:
Even though you are not
the best parents in the world, focus on being the best and bringing out the
best in them, tune out negativity and negative comments on them.
Remember you cannot control what your child says and do, but
you can control how he or she behaves.
There is an old adage, which says, “Never wrestle with a pig because you’ll both get dirty and the pig
will enjoy himself”. Never fight with your child because God has called you
to leadership.
“Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have
lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for
nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men”. Matthew 5:13
Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth” and salt
has two functions. It stops things from going bad, and it adds taste and
flavor.
Your job as a parent is
to preserve, reconcile, and give hope to your children; do you sometimes find
yourself saying, ‘I get so angry when
they refuse to listen to me’. How can I make them listen and hear what I’m
trying to say? Unless you are involved in debate, arguing with your child who’s
unwilling to listen to you is useless and waste of time. State your viewpoint
to him/her with clarity and purpose but do not become defensive and
argumentative, If it is not received, you’ll only hurt yourself and the
relationship between you and your child.
When arguing hold your
tongue and try to remember these words of wisdom. ‘A gentle heart turns away wrath, but a harsh words stirs up anger’.
“The tongue of the wise useth knowledge a right, but
the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness” Proverbs 15:2
There was a woman who
had a female daughter, anytime her daughter offends her she will curse her ‘saying’ you will be killed by motor
vehicle; years past she graduated from the university while coming back from
the graduation ceremony she had an accident and died…… The question now is “who
killed her?”……….
